David Butler burst upon the NSA scene in 1986 as an Area Director. His impact on NSA softball and softball in general in North Carolina was immediate. David made such an impact that he was appointed North Carolina State Director in 1987. David was a charter member of the NSA Advisory Board serving as the chairman until 2001. David is a three-time winner of the NSA State Director of the Year award winning in three consecutive years 1988, 1989, and 1990. This was a feat that has never been done before. David was awarded the NSA’s top honor, the prestigious Presidential Award of Excellence in 1999. He was also appointed the Region 3 Director in 1999 and won the Regional Director of the year in his first year as the fulltime Regional Director in 2000. In 2001, David was appointed the Vice President of the Eastern Zone. At the National Convention in 2001 David was unanimously voted by the NSA Board of Directors to become a member of the NSA Board of Directors.
David’s Tournament Directorship includes hundreds of World Qualifiers, NIT’s, State Tournaments, National Regional Tournaments, World Series Tournaments and Super World Series Tournaments. David was the Tournament Director of the record breaking Youth FastPitch World Tournaments with nearly 700 teams being involved from the US and Canada.
In November 1998, David Butler became the fifth Director inducted into the NSA Hall of Fame.
