James “Jim” Finch started his NSA career in 1991 and has worked in both the Director and Umpire areas for NSA. Jim helped to run local adult league and tournaments from 1991 to 1999 at which time he was appointed as the VA State FP UIC.
While holding his UIC position, Jim continued to work as a site director at all their local tournaments. In 2015 he stepped down from the UIC position and became the Adult League Director for the Hampton, Nike Park and Fox Hill Park leagues. In this position he schedules all their umpires, conducts evaluations and administers the leagues with their city officials. Jim was instrumental in securing the leagues with Newport News in 2017.
Jim received the Mike Coppinger Award for Outstanding Umpire of the Year in 2012 and 2019 as a testimony to his dedication and outstanding service to NSA.
On November 7, 2021 James “Jim” Finch was inducted into the NSA Sports Hall of Fame in the Director Category as a member of the 2020 class.
