NSA Hall of Fame: Jose Barraza (2024)
CATEGORY: Umpire
YEAR INDUCTED: 2024
AWARDS WON: (coming soon)
Jose Barraza began his career with the National Softball Association in February of 2010 in the state of California. In 2019 State Director Stan Hansen asked Jose if he would consider becoming the Umpire-in-Chief for all of California, Nevada, and Oregon. There was no hesitation on the part of Jose, and once he was in place as the UIC, he has demonstrated a very positive and approachable attitude toward Directors, UICs, as well as the teams. His willingness to lead by example has been a tremendous asset to insure the growth of the NSA on the west coast.
Directors have expressed that the efforts Jose puts forth to place umpires at each event is second to none and he is present at as many events as possible. Jose’s communication skills are impeccable and that trait may be the main asset that has developed the success of the West Coast Fast Pitch NSA program. Jose has been the UIC at all State Championship (both North and South) tournaments and was the UIC for the last four of five World Series events, missing just once due to Covid.
Jose has attended the last six NSA/BPA National Conventions, and by doing so he is always up to date on new rules, mechanics, and by-laws, that he promptly informs all umpires under his direction of these changes.
On November 6, 2024 Jose Barraza became the 42nd Umpire Inducted into the NSA/BPA Sports Hall of Fame as a member of the class of 2024.
