In 1992 Ray Couturier joined the NSA as an umpire, and over the years his hard work and respect for the game saw him grow in not only becoming a well respected and quality umpire, to now being the Adult State Director for Michigan. Over the years Ray has umpired every level of the game of softball from weekend paper roster events to the Super World Series. Every game that Ray was assigned, the Director and the teams knew they would get 100% effort and hustle from Ray.

Ray and his wife Marcy are proud parents of Ally who is becoming a quality volleyball player at the collegiate level.

On November 3, 2019, Ray Couturier was inducted into the NSA Sports Hall of Fame in the Umpire Category.
